A Letter to My Friend: Thank You for Not Giving up on Me

An Open Letter to my Friend,

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the investment you made in me. If it had not been for you, your obedience to God and your heart for me, I would not be where I am now. I would still be completely lost, hurting for direction. I would never know the love of Jesus and the truth of salvation.

If it had not been for your patience with my stubbornness, your willingness to answer my questions, your incessant, relentless pursuit of me and my time, my ears, and my attention, I would never have understood the truth of my sin or the depth of Jesus’ love. I know there were times when I ignored you, brushed you off, and treated you with disdain, but you continued to seek me out. You continued to share your faith with me no matter how many times I am certain I hurt your feelings because I hated that same faith. I was broken without knowing it, but because of God’s Holy Spirit in you, you saw what I could not see and sought to show me the way to healing.

I know there were times when I ignored you, brushed you off, and treated you with disdain, but you continued to seek me out.

Because you invested in me, because you stepped out in boldness and told me about your God, your Savior, your Jesus; He is now my God, my Savior, and my Jesus. I was dead and now I am alive.

I have been baptized and I am now serving at a local church as a leader to several teenage girls. Because of your investment in me and my life, I am now able to invest and pour into the lives of others. Now that I know Jesus, I am able to tell others about Him and what He has done for me, what He used you to teach me. I am equipped to join you in building His Church and showing others the love of Christ. I thank God you didn’t give up on me, because God never gave up on me.

So, thank you. Thank you for sharing Jesus with me. Thank you for your obedience, for your faith in Him, and for your trust in His will on my behalf. Thank you for your prayers and conversations. This investment in me and my life is the most important of any and I thank you for being willing to reach out to me.

Sincerely,
One Alive in Jesus
